University of Toledo Masters Degree Review
Location
Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio
Degree
What was your college like?
How was the location? How were the facilities?
The facilities were dismal at best: broken desks, old
equipment (universal machines, dark and dirty weight plates), and a small
computer lab.
What were the Studies and
Faculty Like ?
Undergrad was
challenging, but Graduate School may have been just as challenging to some, but
I enjoyed the course work so much more. It made learning easier and (shockingly)
fun.
The faculty were young, trying to get
tenure, so challenging us and making sure we learned. My thesis professor was
outstanding. I learned so much with the thesis process
What are
you doing now and how did your college degree help/hinder you with your current
job as a personal trainer (or related field)?
My undergrad and grad school degrees certainly helped
tremendously with my knowledge of immunology, exercise physiology and critiquing
exercise studies.
However, I quickly learned in the field that there is
much more to learn when working with people with various pathologies and
training athletes. Experience was a better “teacher” than my course work or any
certifications.
What
Single Piece of Advice would you give a Future Personal Trainer entering your
degree program?
Be
prepared to continue after graduating if you want to excel in the field. After
that, it is all about networking and who you know if you want to get a better
job.
