Western Washington University Bachelors Degree Review

What was your college like?
How was the location? How were the facilities?
College in Bellingham was great! You were in a location that appeals to the
outdoorsy type but still had a city feel to it. Plus, you were about an hour
away from Vancouver, B.C. and an hour away from Seattle.
They are consistently updating their facilities and were working hard at
remodeling several buildings when I was a senior in 2005. The student recreation
center is one of the best that I’ve ever been in.
What were the Studies and
Faculty Like ?
The coursework was definitely challenging, but very
interesting. The content seemed a little behind the current trends and
breakthroughs in fitness and exercise, but provided a great foundation to build
upon.
I had great experiences with the entire faculty in the program also. I would say
that they are at the top of field when it comes to exercise science and
kinesiology.
What are
you doing now and how did your college degree help/hinder you with your current
job as a personal trainer (or related field)?
I’m currently working as a personal trainer at a major health club in
downtown Seattle, and I also train clients through a small business that I
started in June of 2008.
My degree and education was extremely helpful in preparing and passing the
NSCA-CSCS exam, which has become recognized as the gold standard among strength
and conditioning professionals.
Rating of
College Degree & Final Words
I would rate my degree 8.5.
What Single Piece of Advice would you
give a Future Personal Trainer entering your degree program?
"Remember that most of your learning will come from 'in the trenches' training
and from doing continuing education. Our field is ever evolving and as trainers
we need to stay on the forefront of research and practice to provide our clients
with the best possible service. "
