What are the different types of rhinoplasty surgery?

There are two main types of rhinoplasty treatment: open technique and closed technique. When open technique rhinoplasty is undertaken, an incision is made between the nostrils. When closed rhinoplasty is performed, the incision is made inside of the nostrils.

Both techniques have benefits and drawbacks, with open rhinoplasty providing greater freedom to augment the nasal shape but potentially leaving a small incision scar as well as more swelling. Closed technique treatments, conversely, are usually a faster treatment. They also usually require less operative healing, however, closed rhinoplasties may sometimes not be effective for their desired results.

How long is a rhinoplasty procedure?

Is rhinoplasty painful?

Rhinoplasty isn’t typically associated with severe discomfort, however patients may experience mild nausea or headaches following their surgery. These recovery symptoms can typically be managed with bed rest and pain medications.

What does rhinoplasty recovery entail?

You may experience bruising and swelling for around a week after your treatment. You will probably have to wear a splint on your nose for a week after the rhinoplasty surgery. Your surgeon may also advise that you avoid any strenuous exercise and activity. Soon, your splint will be removed and you can resume your normal activities/schedule.

Swelling typically hangs around for a month or so after your rhinoplasty treatment, but for some patients it can last up to a year.
